Set Up Letters Detox Room
Sydney Morning Herald
Saturday May 13, 2000
As a devoted reader of the Letters section of the Herald, I immediately recognised the name Len Green, Rose Bay (Herald, May 6), a frequent contributor in the past. I thought he'd undergone a successful detox program. Too bad he has relapsed, as evidenced by his recidivistic display.
I know the ``fat guy in the hat", too. He's a hardened addict, but you'd never know it to meet him.
I think I'll write to the Salvos about about starting a ``Word Processor" gallery, up at Kings Cross; that way we can all get together in a controlled environment, and, with a Letter Exchange Program, can perhaps implement a ``harm minimisation" approach, protecting ourselves and society from this epidemic scourge.
Then the Herald can return to the business of reporting the news.
John Feller, May 6 Rose Bay.
When pounding away on my word processor, and sending letters to newspapers, magazines and the like, I feel I belong to an unseen body of frustrated authors.
Here we are submitting beautifully crafted and artful samples in words. Whether published or rejected, we are a member of this great family of wordsmiths.
It is a daily task to get the morning paper and scan Column 8, all the news leading up towards the Letters page ... An extra cup of coffee and immerse in the world of my fellow letter writers.
Thank heavens for that page with so many opinions, for and against whatever subject, but always interesting and usually well written.
Thank you, my fellow letter writers.
Peter Frylink, May 9 Umina.
