YOUR body is crying out for one, but a detox can be the dullest of diets.

The Detox Cookbook is for people who love good food but need to revitalise the body, boost immunity and restore wellbeing without going into solitary confinement to do so.

Food writers Kathy Snowball (former food director of Australian Gourmet Traveller) and Jan Purser (a naturopathic nutrition consultant and contributing health editor to Australian Good Taste) combined the skills of a veteran of the 'good food and wine lifestyle' with those of an holistic health practitioner and nutritionist.

The result, The Detox Cookbook, comes just in time for us to recover from the season of excess, without having to compromise great flavours.

When it becomes more difficult to get out of bed each day and you're suffering from more colds than usual, it's also time for a detox.

The book covers the symptoms you experience if you need a detox, what toxins are, how stress factors in and the recommended length of time for the detox. It has recipes for juices, breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner and dessert.

The Detox Cookbook: Cleansing for Food Lovers ($35) is published by Allen & Unwin.
